Your essay should be at least 3 full pages of writing (and may be more), and should use at least 3 outside sources and at least one of our textbooks. Sources must be cited in MLA 8 on a Works Cited page. The essay must also include in-text citations identifying where in the text the source material is used. If no in-text citations are provided, no credit will be given and the essay will be regarded as plagiarized. I know this would not be intended, but at the academic college level, you must be able to demonstrate the usage of sources and properly cite and document them in the correct manner.
This essay should be at least 3 full pages of writing, formatted in 12 pt Times New Roman, double spaced with no additional lines skipped between paragraphs, 1/2 inch paragraph indents, and 1-INCH MARGINS ONLY. I require this assigned formatting in order to ensure that each student writes the same amount of information. I will not accept an essay that is not correctly formatted. Feel free to check a rough draft with me via email at any time beforehand.
For a topic: you should choose some specific concept from our study of ethics, identified by one of our specific terms, for example: objectivism, relativism, heteronomy & autonomy, ethical fact and ethical value, the social contract, interest, teleology, utilitarianism, deontology, the role of religion in ethics, the fact-value problem, and/or one of the three modern moralities (moral realism, skepticism, and nihilism).
Other choices exist also, we have talked about many things! What do you want to research and explore?
In the essay, you should provide a detailed definition and explanation of the concept, provide any and all relevant sub-categories and other applicable terms, ideas or whatever is needed for the concept, provide at least 2 detailed situational examples about the concept, provide discussion of the topic by at least 4 sources (as above: 3 outside sources and at least 1 of our textbooks), and then afterwards you may also relate a specific current issue to the concept in some way.
