federated Australian polity. Since it came into operation over 100 years ago the way in which the High Court
has interpreted it has shifted dramatically.  Explain that shift by describing the way the Constitution was
originally interpreted and also explain the current approach to working out what the
Commonwealth Government can and cannot do under the Constitution.
