Natural disasters can focus on wildfires, earthquakes, floods, etc. An assessment can also be very narrow
within each disaster category like volcanic eruption of Yellowstone, the famine and the drought in the
Midwestern states, the snowstorms in the Northeastern region. A natural disaster risk assessment
systematically evaluates potential hazards, vulnerabilities, and impacts associated with natural disasters in
a specific area. The goal is to understand the level of risk and develop strategies to mitigate or manage the
effects of disasters. In this case specifically, the hurricanes of the state of CT since 1938.
Disaster risk assessments include: the identification of hazards; a review of the technical characteristics of
hazards such as their location, intensity, frequency, and probability; the analysis of exposure and
vulnerability, including the physical, social, health, environmental, and economic dimensions; and
the evaluation of the effectiveness of prevailing and alternative coping capacities concerning likely
risk scenarios. Identify a potential natural disaster threat (one that would happen in CT)
write a Disaster Risk Assessment report on if a category 4 hurricane was to hit Connecticut. and include how local and federal officials may look to recover from the damages caused.
