Human Population
The human population is constantly increasing. This leads to major stresses being placed on the planet for resources, space, and energy. For this discussion, explain the following:
What do scientists estimate the carrying capacity of humans to be for the planet? Explain what you think will happen if the human population exceeds this amount and why.
With the ever increasing concern about the population growth, how do you see specific threats of disease effecting humans? Would this vary across different countries and continents? Provide an example of a specific disease that affected the human population to support your argument.
PEER 1:
1.) The estimated carrying capacity of humans for the planet is approximately 9-10 billion. If the human population exceeds this amount I think resources will dry up and there will be more chances of people dying from starvation because there will be limited food supply. I think since there will be more people it will also bring more diseases. Earth will no longer be able to support the human population so it will eventually die off.
2.) The increase in population will also increase the threat of diseases. If you think of COVID and how it affected us by practically shutting the U.S. down because no one could be within 6 feet of one another. If we have met our max limit of people on earth there would be no room left and not enough vaccines to go around.
PEER 2:
Scientists are varied in their answers regarding the carrying capacity of humans for the planet but it seems to be around 9-10 billion humans. If the human population exceeds this then we will run out of resources to sustain life like fuel and more importantly food resources. The emissions put off by that many humans would also kill the environment and we would eventually heat the earth up to a temperature that is not sustainable.
The most recent example of a disease that has affected the human population would be the COVID-19 pandemic. Hundreds of thousands of people died due to this virus and while that is absolutely terrible, some theorists speculate that it could have been released intentionally for population control. Although I do not believe this to be true, I do think that when there are more humans on the planet then there will be more sickness as well.
