Assignment Description – For this assignment, students will choose one of the ap

Assignment Description – For this assignment, students will choose one of the applied questions discussed in the course (not used in the Short Issue Essay) and clearly define the question at stake in that unit. Then, students will analyze the views on that topic explored in class readings, incorporating one outside source researched independently, and argue for their own position.
Assignment Requirements –
Students will:
1) Define the question under consideration (what is the question? Explain key terms).
2) Explain two views or positions as outlined in two readings from class. 
i) Define the position.
ii) Explain the reasoning the author offered in support of it.
3) Define their own position, and argue in favor of that position.
i) Define a position.
ii) Provide an argument in favor of that position.
iii) Explain how your position compares with that of the other authors you have considered (and why you agree or disagree with that author)
iv) Suggest and respond to one possible objection to your argument.
4) Identify, read, and incorprate one secondary source.
i) Engagement with secondary source should be substantial, though it need not involve explaining every aspect of the essay.
ii) Secondary source should be scholarly articles or book chapters (they shouldn’t be encyclopedia articles, blog posts, youtube videos, etc.)
